    KWVR 1940s Weekend 2025

Usually held in Haworth Village, this event had become a victim of its own success, so the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway took over hosting this year to spread the load and relieve some of the pressure from the village. It was great idea and the glorious weather helped make it a huge success.

    Haworth Hobble 2025

Saturday 8th March saw the running of the 44th Haworth Hobble, a gruelling 31.7 mile ultra marathon, starting and finishing in Haworth and taking in some spectacular moorland scenery, including Top Withens and Stoodley Pike. I wasn’t remotely tempted to take part, not with my dodgy knees, but hundreds of much braver souls than me…

    Oxenhope Straw Race

What started as a bet between Oxenhope farmers some 50 years ago, has become an annual event, raising thousands of pounds for local charities, including Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. This year, over 500 competitors took part, carrying bales of straw the 2.5 miles from The Waggon & Horses pub, through the village and up the…

    The Brontë Birthplace, Thornton

Last week, I was lucky to get the opportunity to spend some time taking photos in the Brontë Birthplace, formerly known as Thornton Parsonage, before major renovation and restoration work begins. Patrick Brontë moved here in 1815 with his wife, Maria, and daughters Maria and Elizabeth, from their previous home at Clough House in Liversedge.…

    Early morning in Haworth

I’d planned to shoot a sunrise straight down the lane from Penistone Hill to Balcony Farm for ages and, on Saturday morning, it looked like the sun would rise in just the right place, so that’s where I set up and waited for half an hour. The warm orange glow from the rising sun caught…

An aimless early morning wander around Thornton

Thornton was a small village when Patrick Brontë was parson here (1815-20) but it now sits right on the edge of the city of Bradford. The remains of the old church of St James, known locally as The Bell Chapel, where Patrick preached. The new St James, bathed in the warm glow of the rising…

A short, muddy stroll along the River Aire at Bingley

Less than 2 miles long but there were some tricky bits that really slowed us down. It will be a great walk to do again in the summer. The 1951 Festival of Britain Bridge over the River Aire Built alongside an ancient ford in 1723, Beck Foot Bridge crosses Harden Beck just before it flows…
