Early morning in Haworth

I’d planned to shoot a sunrise straight down the lane from Penistone Hill to Balcony Farm for ages and, on Saturday morning, it looked like the sun would rise in just the right place, so that’s where I set up and waited for half an hour.

The warm orange glow from the rising sun caught my eye here, where the path heads towards Sowden’s Farm.

I thought there might be some more photo opportunities in the village so I headed back along the path towards the church.

Maybe this should have been a panorama (extending to the right to show more of the village)?

The strong contrast and warm colours were beautiful. This is 5 separate shots stitched together. Even with my 10-20 mm wide angle lens on, I can’t get all this in (and the distortion is difficult to correct).

I couldn’t resist…

Someone pointed out that the setts look like loaves of bread (Hovis, obviously).

From Haworth, I jumped in the car to have a ride around and see what I could find and this view of Rush Isles Farm, near Ponden Reservoir was exactly what I was looking for.

Standing alongside the River Worth, this is the actual Ponden Mill, which gave its name to a nationwide chain of 132 textile and homeware shops.

Two Wuthering Heights locations for the price of one here. To the left, on the horizon, the rocky outcrop Ponden Kirk appears as Penistone Crags in the book and Ponden Hall is believed to have been the inspiration for Thrushcross Grange, as well as inspiring elements of Wuthering Heights itself.
