A foggy dawn over Heptonstall and Hell Hole

Heptonstall is a lovely, characterful hilltop village overlooking the Calderdale town of Hebden Bridge. It has a number of claims to fame, having connections to the Brontës, poets Ted Hughes and his wife Sylvia Plath, and the notorious gang of forgers, the Crag Vale Coiners.

The steep sided valleys that surround it often create a magical mist as the sun comes up. I was lucky to catch these conditions one Saturday in November and here are the photos. I wanted to get more of Hell Hole but I ran out of time, so I went back the following two Saturdays.

I won’t waffle on too much, just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Autumn colours along Calderdale

A quick stop at Pecket Well on the way home for some more mist action
