Pecket Well and Wadsworth War Memorial

Pecket Well is a pretty hill-top village situated on the moorland road from Hebden Bridge to Oxenhope. It has spectacular views down the steep-sided valley of Crimsworth Dean towards Hebden Bridge and boasts quite a few attractive historic buildings.

In a commanding position atop Smeekin Hill nearby stands Wadsworth War Memorial, a striking obelisk, its form reminiscent of the Napoleonic peace monument on Stoodley Pike, which can be seen in the distance from here.

Stoney Lane, Pecket Well. Even in July it can be quite boggy down here.

The view over Crimsworth Dean to Heptonstall. Wadsworth War Memorial is just visible in the trees to the right and Stoodley Pike Monument is on the horizon.

Heading down Stoney Lane again

Ragwort. It’s everywhere at the moment.

Looking back up Stoney Lane. Had to be a bit careful on those flags!

A nice “ghost sign” at the old Co-op in Pecket Well

A couple of nice details in Pecket Well. I love the pointing fingers on the way marker and and Edward VII post box, unusual because he was only on the throne for 9 years so there aren’t that many of them about.
